We are looking forward to our Christmas Program tomorrow night at 6:30pm! Come see what the students have been practicing in their performance, "The Year Santa Got Mixed Up!"
Students were excited about the first snow of the season and a group of them worked together to build a snowman during recess.
In December the Leader in Me habit students are working on is to Put First Things First. 4th grade put first things first by practicing multiplying by 0,1,2 and 5 so later they will be able to do harder facts.
Congratulations to this weeks Patriot Prize winners. These students demonstrated the pillar of the month: Courage
The 7/8 grade students are reading Where the Red Fern Grows. Amariah likes this book because the main character is determined. Bryson's favorite part so far has been when the main character caught his first raccoon with the help of his pups. They are excited to continue on the adventure of this book.
Students at Lego club showed cooperation by taking turns and helping each other find pieces as they built their own master pieces.
Last weekend Hillsdale Prep had a float in the Light Up Hillsdale Parade. We owe a huge thank you to the parents and staff that helped design, build and pull the float in the parade We also want to thank the families that came and walked with us. Everyone that attended had a great time kicking off the Holiday season. If you had a hand in the event thanks for making it possible.
In December the Leader in Me habit students will be focusing on is to Put First Things First. The following video is a great example of prioritizing important things (the big rocks) instead of allowing less important things (little pebbles) to take up all of our time:

We would like to create a care closet for our students that will be filled with personal hygiene, necessities, and nonperishable items that can be readily available for students if a need arises. This year, our angel tree will be filled with items needed for our new care closet. We welcome you to the front foyer to take an angel off the tree. Donations should be dropped off to the office by Friday, December 22, 2023 Thank you for helping us meet the needs of our students!
Congratulations to this weeks Patriot Prize winners. These students demonstrated the pillar of the month: Cooperation
Miss Taylor's 2nd and 3rd graders just finished reading, How Many Days to America. While reading this book the students learned how to answer comprehension questions in a complete sentence, use a dictionary to define unfamiliar words, compare and contrast our life versus the life of the characters in the book, and made text to self connections.
This student earned 2 Patriot Prizes for Cooperation earlier this month. He received one Patriot Prize from Mrs. Fowler for accepting an answer he was given and being cooperative by staying on task with the class. He also received a Patriot Prize from Miss Bri for following along with a history lesson and participating in the class discussion.
The Hillsdale Preparatory School December 26 Board Meeting has been canceled. The Board will meet again on January 23 at 5:30pm.
Last week classrooms had a special lunch to celebrate Thanksgiving. Staff and students had a great time celebrating together.
4th graders brainstormed ways they could contribute to their classroom. They came up with nine leadership roles and decided that one student will fulfill each role every week. They are going to write job descriptions and apply for the role they want first.
Earlier this week a letter was sent home with students explaining the Measurable Results Assessment (MRA), a survey and reporting system designed to provide insights into the progress of our school. You can also find this letter on our website. Please use the following link to fill out the MRA Family Survey: https://www.leaderinme.com/s/hillsdale-preparatory-school/families
Miss Tulloch's class takes brain breaks throughout the day to help students refocus and release energy. Last week their break included acting like inflatable arm men.
In November the Leader in Me habit Hillsdale Prep is focusing on is to Begin with the End in Mind. In 4th grade students created personal goals then developed a plan outlining the steps to achieve their goals.

Hillsdale Prep students want to give a huge thank you to Kimm Burger from the KB Law Office for donating funds to purchase each student a book for their home library. Last week the books were passed out to students and each class took a picture to show off the book they received. Thank you Kimm for encouraging students to read at home.
